Wellington Fire District - New Zealand
Station 23 - Thorndon
Extention of the Ladder
Here you can see the ladder fully extended. The maximum height that can be attained is 31 metres (100 feet).
The maximum extension is 75 degrees and the ladder is capable of extending to 17 degrees below the horizontal (see lower photo).
The ladder sections are constructed from electrically tested welded steel and are hydraulically extended and housed by means of two 9 metre hydraulic cylinders and a steel cable system.
Notice the extended jacks providing balance.
This illustrates the specialised use of this appliance.
Here, the ladder can act like a crane, or can provide access to victims in inaccessible locations.
With the jacks extended the truck becomes a very stable platform.
Oh, by the way, if you haven't done so already, click on the very tip of the extended ladder in the top photo, for some views from the TOP of the ladder.
